Course Description

This course explores constitutional, statutory, and court-created contours of federal court dispute resolution. Topics to be covered include subject matter jurisdiction (federal question, diversity of citizenship, supplemental, and removal), justiciability (advisory opinions, standing, ripeness, and mootness), the Anti-Injunction Act, abstention doctrines, federal court supervision of state courts (including habeas corpus), and civil rights lawsuits under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
