Course Description

This course covers the many facets of criminal law - foundational principles of criminal liability, statutory construction, theories and forms of punishment, the elements of major criminal offenses, defenses, and issues of when and how individuals are liable for the conduct of others. These are all taught with reference to their history and social contexts and consequences. The course also emphasizes the importance of factual analysis in applying statutes and defenses to particular circumstances.
