Course Description
The course provides a detailed overview of the laws which enable non-citizens to enter, reside in and ultimately become citizens of the United States. Topics include: the distinctive constitutional framing of immigration law, parameters for immigrant and non-immigrant admissions into the United States, grounds for inadmissibility and deportability (and relief from both), admission and removal procedures, state and local roles in immigration law, birthright citizenship and naturalization. Although the course focus is immigration law rather than immigration policy or politics, the course will address various important recent developments in the area.

This section of Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Law is offered as one of the elective courses available to first year students only. There is a separate registration process in which first year students will participate.
