LAW 5040: Survey of Legal Topics
Spring 2021 • Section 01 • CRN 26023

Course Description

This class will begin your preparation for the bar exam, both the multistate/multiple-choice section (“the MBE”) and the essay and performance test questions. The MBE covers seven subjects and these are also the subjects most pervasively covered on both the PA essay questions and the UBE essay questions – (1) Criminal Law and Procedure; (2) Constitutional Law; (3) Contracts; (4) Evidence; (5) Torts; (6) Civil Procedure, and (7) Property.  Every week, we will work to improve study habits and exam techniques, including becoming a self-regulated learner, time management, test anxiety, reading skills, MBE and PA/UBE essay question styles, avoiding deceptive wrong answers, organizing essay answers, and the performance test. Students will get individualized feedback on draft essay answers and direct review of MBE questions on each subject. There will be a midterm exam of 100 MBE questions and a final exam that consists of 200 MBE questions (to simulate the MBE portion of the bar exam) and 1-2 essay questions.
