• CRN 39739
Course Description
This seminar course examines the regulation of communications media from newspapers and broadcast media to cable and the Internet. Topics include defining and representing the media, First Amendment protections, prior restraint, liability, privacy, intellectual property, government regulation, and classified leaks. Using these traditional issues as a springboard for discussion, students will learn from two practitioners -- an attorney and a journalist -- about media law and how it runs up against the imperatives of day-to-day journalism.
