Spring 2025 • Section 21 • CRN 11782

Course offerings for are still tentative. The information below is subject to change.

Course Description

This course will explore the relationship between the ways in which American law has responded to a variety of issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. The course will begin by examining the multiple meanings and dimensions of sexual orientation and gender identity, then look at the relationships between issues of orientation and other legally protected statutes. The remainder of the course will focus on a variety of substantive areas of law in which issues of sexual orientation arise. As each substantive area is covered, students will be encouraged to reflect back on the first classes and think about whether existing legal protections for other minority groups are appropriate for sexual minorities, or whether other legal structures would be more effective in achieving the goals of equality and liberation.
