Course Description

Students in the course will learn about the various components of complex sports contracts, negotiate the terms of some widely used agreements, and draft the most commonly used documents in the sports industry. The course will cover the following: the negotiation and drafting of player representation contracts, stadium leasing agreements, naming rights for stadiums and arenas, sponsorships deals for athletes, and food and beverage concession contracts between vendors and stadium operators. Students will learn about and practice different negotiation styles by engaging in, and reflecting on, a series of simulated exercises within each lesson. Although the sports industry is used as a backdrop for these negotiation and drafting exercises, the skills that the students learn will be transferable to other practice areas and contexts.
