Course Description

This class is designed to introduce students to structure and substance of the bar exam, focusing on the Universal Bar Exam (“UBE”), which has been adopted by a majority of US Jurisdictions. Students will learn about the three components of the UBE, which is composed of the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) and Multistate Performance Test (MPT). The MBE, a 200 multiple-choice question test administered in almost every US jurisdiction that accounts for up to 50% of a bar examinee’s score, covers seven subjects: (1) Criminal Law and Procedure; (2) Constitutional Law; (3) Contracts; (4) Evidence; (5) Torts; (6) Civil Procedure, and (7) Real Property. These subjects are also regularly covered in the MEE. Students will learn the substantive material of these subjects for class and test their knowledge by completing MBE and MEE style questions. This course will also cover exam techniques and avoiding deceptive wrong answers. Students will get individualized feedback on draft essay answers and direct review of MBE questions on each subject. There will be a final exam that consists of 100 MBE questions (to simulate one-half of the MBE portion of the bar exam) and 1-2 essay questions.
