Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic principles governing coverage under the most common forms of liability insurance in the U.S.   The availability of coverage under liability insurance is the backbone and close companion of the tort system.  Students will be introduced to the following insurance lines: general liability, professional liability/malpractice, homeowners and auto.  The most common claims under each line will be discussed and the principal disputes that arise.  The course is designed to demonstrate, through actual cases, where the dollars come from to satisfy tort judgments and settlements.
