Course Description
This is an advanced property seminar. The course examines the ways that property rules and ideas have shaped and been shaped by notions of both race and nature. It will draw on materials from different fields, including law, history, anthropology, sociology, geography, and literature, to explore how these relationships have unfolded in a variety of historical and cultural contexts. Some course topics may include genetic ownership, colonial natures, wilderness conservation, ownership under regimes of slavery, and collective property.
