LAW 5007: Current Topics - in Antitrust Law
Spring 2026 • Section 21 • CRN 53414

Course Description

Current Topics courses are developed to cover timely, topical or specialized areas of the law. The topics will be diverse and can range from Administrative Law, to Criminal Law, to Taxation. Each "Current Topic" course will be unique and will not repeat material presented by regular semester courses.

The biggest antitrust cases in a generation are being litigated now. Antitrust is the law of competition. It is used to fight abuses of corporate power, and bring economic justice to consumers.

This seminar will discuss hot topics in antitrust law: the major “big tech” cases (focusing on Google, Apple, Meta) ongoing now, antitrust and labor (including non-compete agreements), healthcare competition, antitrust where it collides with intellectual property, AI and privacy, and the new hostility toward independent agencies like the Federal Trade Commission (an antitrust law enforcer), which is the subject of a major case headed to the Supreme Court this December. Guest speakers will discuss labor competition, algorithmic collusion, and a significant case against Ticketmaster. The writing assignment will involve drafting an in-depth research memo for a hypothetical client, in an area of the student’s interest in modern antitrust law. No prior antitrust experience is required, just curiosity for the subject.
