LAW 0565: Advanced Trial Advocacy (Criminal)

Course Description

This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the criminal trial process from initiation of charge through verdict. Intensive examination of case theory as it relates to all phases of the trial will be stressed. In addition to trying two complete jury trials, students will perform at preliminary hearings and motions to suppress. Special emphasis will be placed on the examination and cross examination of experts.

For Spring 2026, students are not required to have JUDO 0461 (Trial Advocacy II) to take this class. Please reach out to kelly.butts@temple.edu for an override exception if you plan to use this course as a priority pick. Otherwise, you may have a registration issue. Open to 2Ls and 3LEs with one semester of ITAP as well as 3Ls or 4LEs who took ITAP or ITA last year.

  • LAW 0460 (Trial Advocacy I ) or LAW 0558 (Introduction to Trial Advocacy)
  • LAW 0461 (Trial Advocacy II) or LAW 0558 (Introduction to Trial Advocacy)
  • LAW 0410 (Criminal Law I)
  • LAW 0532 (Criminal Procedure I)
  • LAW 0540 (Evidence)
