Course Description
This course will examine the critical sentencing issues faced by prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges. We will consider the evolving role of sentencing guidelines and the ways in which mandatory sentences, plea bargaining, cooperation and other factors impact the sentencing process. We will also explore legal issues raised by imprisonment, capital punishment, alternatives to incarceration, and the roles and rights of victims in the sentencing process.
