LAW 1098: Artificial Intelligence Law
Spring 2027 • Section 21

Course Description

Artificial Intelligence Law follows an AI system through its life cycle — the data it is trained on, the rules governing its development and deployment, and the outputs it produces — and examines the law that applies at each stage. The course opens with a grounding in how models are built and why they err, then turns to the acquisition and use of training data, the federal, state, and international regulatory frameworks, and liability for harms caused by AI systems. It concludes with what AI systems produce: whether that content can be owned, who answers for it when it is false or misleading, and how courts should treat it as evidence.
